Erst vor kurzem war Oddisee in den Red Bull Studios Berlin mit seiner Band The Good Compny zu Gast. Im kleinen Rahmen wurde dabei auch ein kurzes Konzert gefilmt. Neue EP von Oddisee! Der Garant für qualitativen Output und eine verdammt gute Liveshow dropt hier mal eben die kostenlose EP “Alwasta” mit insgesamt sieben Tracks! Weiter geht´s im Mai mit einem neuen Instrumental Album, einigen Livegigs bei Festivals im Sommer und dem Nachfolger zu “The Good Fight” im Herbst. Sudanese-American hiphop artist Oddisee’s new EP, “AlWasta,” takes its title from the Arabic colloquial term used to mean (to use colloquial English) “the plug.” The term “wasta” comes from the Arabic word “wasat,” meaning “middle” or “middleman,” and describes a member of the community who acts as a connector using their wealth of social currency. Understanding the value of social currency & how to use it (for better or worse) is what Amir Elkhalifa aka Oddisee focused on as the primary inspiration for his writings.

Oddisee konnte seine Qualitäten als hervoragender Live-Mc mit großartiger Unterstützung seiner Live-Band beweisen, wovon man zuletzt vor zwei Jahren im Lido überzeugen konnte! Das Album von Oddisee “The Good Fight” läuft sowohl auf heavy rotation als auch die Vorfreude auf der Konzert im September im Lido in Berlin wächst! Oddisee ist nämlich ein herrvoragender Live-Mc mit großartiger Unterstützung seiner Live-Band, wovon man sich schon vor zwei Jahren im Lido überzeugen konnte! Nach der ersten Single “That´s Love” folgt jetzt endlich auch das erste Video aus dem neuen Oddisee Album “The Good Fight” (VÖ: 15.05.2015 / Mello Music Group). Oddisee gehört für mich zu einem der unterschätztesten Produzenten und MCs mit sehr guten Live Qualitäten! Hoffen wir, dass er dieses Jahr wieder in Deutschland auf der Bühne steht!
“CounterClockwise is about being there for people & them working against you as a result. Becoming the bearer of their problems because they know you can handle it,” Says Oddisee.
This is the second song from the Brooklyn by-way-of Prince George’s County musicians upcoming solo album “The Good Fight.” The song explores the counterproductive nature of some relationships that end up draining those involved. Disorienting and complex layers of backsliding record slips, driving drums, and haunting vocalizations push the song forward while Oddisee’s crisp and calm vocals tell the story of people moving in different directions. And while anger may be somes primary drive, and fire may be their weapon, Oddisee reminds us that water is their easy match.

In order to visually represent this idea director Brandon Black and Director of Photography Zack Schamberg filmed Oddisee walking backwards throughout multiple boroughs in New York over several nights. Then they reversed the footage to make everyone else move backwards. Next the director shot the footage at night but boosted the light to appear as though it was day in order to add to the disorienting affect, making night seem like day, and forward seem like backwards.
Das Ladi6 Konzert im September war definitiv eines der Highlights des Jahres und wird hoffentlich bald mit der gesamten Liveband wiederholt! Im Blog konntet ihr neben dem Album-Stream zum neuen Album “Automatic” bisher auch die Videos zu “Shine On” und “Ikarus” sehen! Gestern hat die Band ihr Video zu dem etwas popigeren Song “Diamonds” veröffentlicht. Alle Songs des Albums “Automatic” wurden von Parks und Waajeed produziert und im legendären Studio A in Detroit (Studio von J-Dilla) aufgenommen! Ladi6 gewannen mit ihrer Mischung aus Neo-Soul und HipHop schon diverse Musikpreise und goldene Schallplatten in ihrem Heimatland Neuseeland!

Oddisee ist auf Europa Tour und wieder zu Gast in Berlin! Der Ausnahme MC, welcher für seine gesellschaftskritischen und nachdenklichen Texte bekannt ist, wird am 18.11. live im Lido auf der Bühne stehen! Dass Oddisee nicht nur ein sehr begabter MC sondern auch ein begnadeter Produzent ist, hat er zuletzt mit seinem Instrumental-Album “The Beauty In All” bewiesen, welches beim Kauf zusätzlich das Mixtape “Tangible Dream” beinhaltet. Absolute Kaufempfehlung! Im Sommer 2012 erschien das erste Studioalbum von Oddisee “People Hear What They See”, welches von iTunes UK zum „Rap/Hip Hop Album des Jahres“ erkoren wurde. Ende diesen Jahres soll der Nachfolger released werden und vielleicht gibt es ja live am 18.11. schon die ersten Tracks zu hören! Dass Oddisee eine verdammt gute Live-Show abliefern kann, hat er unter anderem schon im Cassiopeia und Stattbad in Berlin und beim splash Festival bewiesen!
